Rockingham Commissioner Offers Pest Advice

Rockingham County Commissioner James Kallam has some advice for homeowners looking to get rid of insects, according to Godanriver.com.

Kallam deals the subject for his job at Kallam Exterminators. He said there are ways to remove them without spending much money.

He said pests are attracted to food. Therefore the entire house should have good sanitation, especially in the kitchen.

The dishwasher should especially be cleaned constantly, he said.

Kallam also said there should not be a border of grass directly around the house.

There should not be any bushes and trees touching the house directly either, he said.

Kallam also said that removing all areas of standing water, such as buckets, is important in combating mosquitoes.

Changes Planned for Reidsville Walmart

Changes Planned for Reidsville Walmart

The Walmart store in Reidsville is currently undergoing various changes including the expansion of several departments, according to Godanriver.com.

The changes will continue for the next six to eight weeks, and hope to reportedly give the store a new atmosphere.

The electronics section will add five new aisles and new bathrooms have been installed to the front of the store, the website reported.

Some departments have been moved around. The store's inside paint job has been redone.

A new photo lab and a site-to-store section are also being added. The site-to-store section will allow customers to order products sold online.

The changes are part of a companywide effort to better cater to each store's community, said store manager David Coulson, according to the website.

The store is expected to hold a grand re-opening event June 3.

Eden Body Armor Protects Soldier

A soldier in Afghanistan may possibly not be alive had he not been wearing body armor made in Eden, according to Godanriver.com.

Staff Sgt. Shawn Babcock was recently struck in the back by an AK-47 round in Afghanistan, the website reported.

But he was wearing body armor made by KDH Defense Systems, which stopped the 7.62-millimeter round.

"All my guys liked it,” he said of the bodt armor, according to the website. “KDH makes a good product.”

The company is located at 750 W. Fieldcrest Road in Eden.

Pelham Transportation Offering Rides to Air Show Saturday

Pelham Transportation will offer rides to the Wings Over Wayne 2011 Air Show in Goldsboro Saturday.

Transportation costs $40 a person. Services will depart from Pelham's 114 W. Morehead St. location at 6 a.m.

The Wings Over Wayne 2011 Air Show is an event featuring the air demonstrations of the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds.

Gates are open from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free.

Goldsboro is about two and a half hours away from Reidsville.

Grants to be Awarded for Rockingham County Projects

The Golden LEAF Foundation’s Community Assistance Initiative project is complete in Rockingham County, according to Godanriver.com.

The projects which will receive funding have been announced.

This grant funded several projects including the Madison-Mayodan Public Library, Rockingham County Schools and the Rockingham County Business and Technology Center.

Golden LEAF Foundation’s President Dan Gerlach said the foundation gave a lot of consideration to the projects, according to the website.

Reidsville Farmer's Market Begins Saturday

The Reidsville Downtown Farmer's Market opens for the season at 6 a.m. Saturday in Market Square at the corner of Settle and Scales streets.

Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with entertainment by the "Blue Swag Step Team," a cooking demonstration by author Lisa Shively, potters demonstrations and inflatable’s for kids.

The Market will be open Saturdays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 a.m. to 12 p.m. through October.

Homegrown fruits and vegetables and canned and baked items from local farmers will be sold.

Market Square is the permanent location for the event, according to Reidsville's website.

New Dollar General Opens in Mayodan

New Dollar General Opens in Mayodan

A new Dollar General has opened in Mayodan, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

The company is located at 115 N. Second Ave. and will hold a grand opening celebration at 8 a.m. Saturday.

The store will offer customers special deals and free prizes, the paper reported.

The first 50 shoppers at the store will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways.

Dollar General stores offer food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and health and beauty care products.

The store employs approximately six to 10 people, according to the paper.
