Reidsville Police Promote Two Officers, Add Another

The Reidsville Police Department recently promoted two officers and swore in another, according to Godanriver.com.

Jimmy Lee Hutchens and Kelvin Doyle O’Bryant have been promoted. Hutchens is now a sergeant.

Jeremy Clyde Revis was sworn in as a new officer. The paper did not provide background information on the three police members.

Wentworth Native Honored for 4-H Service

Wentworth native Frank Meador was recently inducted into the North Carolina 4-H Hall of Fame in Raleigh, according to the Greensboro News & Record.

Meador has participated in 4-H and served as a leader since he was 19, the paper reported.

His parents, Joe and Mary Meador, were 4-H leaders when he was a child and he reportedly met his wife, the former Leola Dickerson, in 4-H.

Meador is in the third group of inductees. His wife Leola was in “the first 100” during the 100th anniversary celebration.

Rockingham County Rock Band to Play Free Concert

A free concert featuring the music of The Impacts takes place from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Saturday at Freedom Park Kiwanis Amphitheatre in Eden.

The Impacts are a five-piece band from Madison-Mayodan that play dance, oldies and beach music.

The event is sponsored by City of Eden Recreation Department and open to the public. The Freedom Park Kiwanis Amphitheatre is located at 121 N. Edgewood Road.

Mish Mosh Store Now Open in Reidsville

A store selling candles, soap, barbeque sauce, copper work and more has recently opened in downtown Reidsville, according to Godanriver.com.

Mish Mosh Inc. is now open at 105 South Scales St. Owner Anita Wallace said she travels to find unique items for the store.

Wallace said she refurbishes pieces of furniture to give them an updated look. The store also sells jewelry, purses and other items.

Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store will have expanded hours during downtown events.

Reidsville Chamber Of Commerce Selects New President

Diane Sawyer has recently been named the Reidsville Chamber of Commerce's new president and chief executive officer, according to Godanriver.com.

Sawyer has worked for a health and wellness organization in Martinsville, Va.

She has seven years of experience in non-profit management and has hosted a weekly community TV show for the past four years, the website reported.

“I look forward to working with local government and helping facilitate the needs of our members, local industry and other small businesses,” Sawyer said, according to the website.

She is from Rockingham County and lives in Reidsville with her husband and daughter. No further information was provided.

New Kids Club Opens in Downtown Reidsville

New Kids Club Opens in Downtown Reidsville

A supervised kids club for children ages five to 15 has opened in downtown Reidsville, according to Godanriver.com.

Downtown Kid’s Town will host a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. Friday at the business' location at 231 S. Scales Street.

The club is designed as a place to give kids something to do or for parents to drop them off for a date, the website reported.

It features video games, a dance floor and a snack bar. The entrance fee for children is $8.

Staff members are reportedly working on organizing different parties including a Disney princess party for girls and a cowboys and Indians one for boys.

Business hours are 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday for children 5-9 and 8:30 p.m. to midnight for kids 10-15 years. Children under five must have a parent present.

'80s Tribute Band to Play Free Concert in Reidsville

A rock group billed as "America's premier 80s tribute band" will perform a free concert in Reidsville Saturday, July 16.

The Breakfast Club will play at 7 p.m. at Market Square at 303 S. Scales St. A beer and wine tent will also be open.

The Breakfast Club is one of the most requested and widely marketable 80s tribute band in the United States, according to event officials.

They are currently on tour and will play in Raleigh on June 23 and Greensboro on June 29. Call 349-1099 for more information.
