Pair Charged in Eden Arson to Appear in Court

Pleas will be entered or a trial date scheduled for two people charged with arson to homes owned by an Eden orthopedic surgeon, according to GoDanRiver.com.

The Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office said Maureen Ward and Thadford Fuller are to appear in court Feb. 14 to enter their pleas or schedule a trial date in reference to charges they both set fires to Dr. Titus Plomaritis's homes.

Ward is Plomaritis’ ex-wife. Ward and Fuller were charged by North Carolina’s State Bureau of Investigation last May, according to GoDanRiver.com.

Ward is charged with setting a 2003 fire to her home in Eden, and obtaining property by false pretenses and insurance fraud.

Police Search for Mail Box Vandals

Police are looking for the suspect responsible for damaging several mail boxes in the Madison, Mayodan and Stoneville portions of Rockingham County, according to a press release.

A possible suspected vehicle is reported to be a faded gray Ford Ranger Pickup with an extended cab. It could be a 1998 model, and have a diamond designed tool box in the bed, the release stated.

It states that a vehicle matching this description was seen on the Price Grange road during the time many mail boxes were damaged.

Deputies search for suspect in car break-in

REIDSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) - Rockingham County deputies need help solving a car break-in.

On January 21, Thomas Pruitt told deputies someone had broken into his 2006 Ford F150 truck while it was parked at his home on HIghway 158.

Deputies say Pruitt is missing the following items:

  • .380 caliber semi-auto handgun by Ruger, valued at $400
  • HP Laptop Computer valued at $2,000
  • Taylor-made golf clubs with bag valued at $4,000
  • Tool bag with various tools valued at $1,000

More Than $7,000 Worth of Items Stolen From Truck

The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is currently searching for items removed from a 2006 Ford F150 truck while it was parked at the victim's residence, according to police.

Thomas Pruitt, 31, had a Ruger .380 caliber semi-auto handgun, an HP Laptop computer, taylor-made golf clubs with a bag and a tool bag with several tools removed from his truck, according to police.

Police said the total value of the missing items exceeds $7,000. The handgun is valued at $400, the computer at $2,000, the golf clubs at $4,000 and the tools at $1,000.

Eden Resident Involved With "America's Most Wanted" Episode

"America's Most Wanted" host John Walsh said that investigators overlooked a statement from Eden resident Patty Murphy in a segment aired Saturday, according to the Martinsville Daily.

The case involved the 2002 murders of Jennifer Short and her parents in Henry County, Va.

Walsh told the audience that Murphy had reported that she saw a man in the driver's side seat of a truck parked near the Short's home around 2 p.m. the day the crime was discovered.

The episode included police information that has been withheld from the media for years, according to the Martinsville Daily.

   It's probably the most popular resolutions of the new year, losing weight. For many in order to keep that resolution, it means joining a gym, but if you’re working to shed some pounds at a local workout facility, the Better Business Bureau recommends asking ten questions before signing on the dotted line and handing over the cash.

    Just in 2009, the BBB received 7,787 complaints about gyms and health clubs. That number put the industry in the top 20 for most complained about businesses. Not only does the BBB receive a lot of complaints about gyms, but complaints increased by 21 percent in 2009 over the previous year.

Deputies search for copper thief suspect

REIDSVILLE, N.C. (WGHP) - Rockingham County deputies are looking for the man in the above photograph.  Investigators say the picture was taken by a security camera that the homeowner installed. 

The home is located off of Crossover Road in Reidsville and though no one lives there, it is being used for storage.

Deputies say the homeowner reported two cases of break-ins at the vacant home on January 1, and January 3.  According to investigators the thief forced open a lock, stole copper wire and several other items valued at roughly $2,500.
