MillerCoors Brewery Increases Sustainability

The MillerCoors brewery in Eden will no longer send trash to the landfill, according to Godanriver.com.

The brewery reportedly recycles of reuses almost 100 percent of all waste. The remaining trash that cannot be recycled is sent to a waste energy facility in Virginia.

The facility has been working to reduce landfill waste over the past several years, said Drew Lucas, the plant's environmental health and safety representative.

More than half of landfill waste has been reduced from 2007 and from 2008-2009, a 15-percent reduction in waste going to the landfill was achieved by the brewery.

Mish Mosh Store Now Open in Reidsville

A store selling candles, soap, barbeque sauce, copper work and more has recently opened in downtown Reidsville, according to Godanriver.com.

Mish Mosh Inc. is now open at 105 South Scales St. Owner Anita Wallace said she travels to find unique items for the store.

Wallace said she refurbishes pieces of furniture to give them an updated look. The store also sells jewelry, purses and other items.

Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The store will have expanded hours during downtown events.

New Goodwill Store Opens in Stoneville

A new Goodwill retail store has recently opened in Stoneville, according to company officials.

The 5,000-square-inch store is located at 129 N. Henry St. and will sell clothing, electronics and houseware.

“We are excited to become a part of the Stoneville community," said Celeste MacMurdo, vice president of retail operations. "Our goal is to provide a new and diverse shopping opportunity."

Goodwill now operates 18 retailers throughout Alamance, Guilford, Rockingham and Randolph Counties. Other Rockingham County locations include Eden, Madison and Reidsville.

Business hours are 9 a.m.–7 p.m.

New Bojangles Restaurant Opens in Reidsville

A new Bojangles chicken and biscuits fast food restaurant has recently opened in Reidsville, according to Godanriver.com.

The restaurant is located at 2006 Barnes St near U.S. Highway 29. The venue is owned by the same man who own the location at 1633 Freeway Drive in Reidsville.

“We employ over 200 people in Rockingham County with all of our store locations,” said owner Ashe Dinakaran. “Our business is doing pretty well right now.”

Business hours are Monday through Saturday from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sundays from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. The drive thru is open until 12 a.m.

New Pottery Studio Opens in Eden

Kim’s Pottery Studio in Eden has officially opened for business, according to Godanriver.com.

The studio offers pottery classes, rental space for independent potters and special events like birthdays and play dates. It is located at 655 Washington St. in the Olde Leaksville Shopping District.

Potter Benjamin Winslow took the project on as a joint venture with his mother, Davene Girtman. Winslow said he’s the pottery side and she’s the business side.

Registration is open for children’s summer pottery activities and adult pottery classes.

Studio hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from noon until 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for $125 per month.

Adult pottery classes are Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The fee for 10 lessons is $150 or $20 per lesson.

Reidsville Walmart to Host 3-Day Celebration Starting Friday

The Reidsville Walmart store will host a three-day celebration this weekend in honor of its new renovations, according to Godanriver.com.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will kick off the event starting at 7:30 a.m. Friday at the store's location at 1624 N.C. Highway 14.

A Bass Pro Shops bass tank and a NASCAR simulator are also among the events taking place at the store, the website reported.

The Walmart location has spent the last month making store upgrades including changing the location of its departments and repainting.

It has also expanded the electronics section to include new products.

At least 40 new employees were hired to help with the transition and the store will keep most of them, according to the website.

Commissioners Approve Incentives Package for Gerbing’s

The Rockingham County Board of Commissioners approved a $25,600 incentives package for Gerbing’s Heated Clothing Inc. Monday, according to Godanriver.com.

The corporation expects to bring 158 full-time positions to Stonesville by Dec. 31, 2015, according to the website.

The company announced in April it plans to bring at least 150 jobs to Rockingham County as it will phase out production in China and return to the United States.

Gerbing’s also agreed to invest a minimum of $467,735 in new taxable machinery and equipment, and $749,052 in building improvements in the Town of Stoneville.

The incentives totaling $25,600 will be paid in four annual installments of $6,400 starting Feb. 28, 2013.

Jeff Alt, an employee at the Stoneville location, told commissioners they expect to initially hire up to 20 people and have already started taking job applications.
